Body Talk with Gui Adorno

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

The first time Guilherme “Gui” Manuel Adorno Casairo (better now known as Gui Adorno) came to the Philippines was in 2007 for a modeling stint. He left two months later and came back in 2009 also for modeling.

“That’s when I met my voice coach and a few musicians,” said Gui, “and came back last year.”

A singer, Gui sang for the Talent Competition Nandito Ako (with only very slight Spanish accent) for the prelims and El Bimbo for the finals of the Foreignoy contest (“Full-bloodied foreigner na may Pusong Pinoy”) on Eat, Bulaga! and handily won the nod of the judges (including Joey de Leon, Gloria Diaz, Jessica Soho and Ruffa Gutierrez) over a dozen other worthies (from Hong Kong, England, Croatia, India, etc.).

Although he represented Portugal, Gui was born and raised in Brazil where he finished high school in the capital city Sao Paulo. His father is Portuguese and his mother is part-Portuguese/part-Brazilian/part-Italian.

“After high school,” added Gui, a Gael Garcia Bernal (inset) look-alike who speaks very good English, “I passed an entrance exam for Law School but I decided to take a year off. I decided to try modeling and acting. I actually did a movie.”

It was modeling that brought Gui to various Asian countries including India, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Korea and the Philippines. He’s friends with Brapanese models Akihiro Sato, Daniel Matsunaga, Fabio Ide and Hideo Muraoka. It was here where he met his girlfriend, Julia Quisumbing (from Cebu), also a model.

Asked if he’s faithful, Gui was firm, “Yes, I am. When I am in a relationship, I stick to her. I haven’t had many girlfriends. I met Julia during a casting call. It was good that I was single at that time. I saw her at the elevator and I got so attracted to her that first thing I did was take out candies from my bag and offer them to her. She gave me a hard time before she said yes.”

They’ve been going steady for a year now.

“When I have a girlfriend, I respect her and I don’t look at other women anymore. You see, my mom broke up with my father and then my stepfather because they were not faithful to her. I don’t want to do that to my girlfriend.”

And how much of a Pusong Pinoy is he now?

“50/50,” he smiled. “I have Brazilian-Portuguese-Italian blood but my heart is Filipino. As a boy growing up, you sort of follow your culture but when you start becoming a man, you start adapting to the culture of the countries you stay in. I’ve been staying in the Philippines long enough to love the country as my own. I’ve learned so much here.”

A Libra (born on Oct. 10, 1986), Gui stands 5’10”; weighs 170 lbs.; and wears small/medium-size shirt and size-30 briefs. He lives alone in New Manila, Quezon City.

As the first winner of Foreignoy contest, a brainchild of Joey de Leon (with a follow-up contest called Foreignay featuring full-bloodied female foreigners “na may Pusong Pinoy”), he got P200,000 among his prizes.

What kind of diet do you follow?

“I’d rather call it a lifestyle, not a diet. I like to eat healthy food, whatever is good for my body; I avoid oily food. I eat a lot of fruits. And I drink a lot of water, three liters a day.”

Favorite food?

“Pasta.”

Favorite vegetable?

“Broccoli.”

Are you clean-living?

“Yes, I am. I don’t smoke and I do only social drinking.”

What workout do you do?

“Not so much these days. Good thing I lose weight very easily.”

Favorite sport?

“Soccer.”

Any part of your body that needs improvement?

“My legs. My knees are bended and I need to work on them.”

What part of your body is most vulnerable?

“When I was younger, it was my heart. I’m romantic and I got broken-hearted so many times.”

How old were you when you lost your innocence?

“Sixteen.”

To a younger woman, older woman or a woman your age?

“Same my age. We were in high school.”

What part of your body is your favorite?

“My lips.”

And what part of a girl’s body do you notice first?

“It’s not just a part, but her totality as a person.”

What else in a girl turns you on?

“I like smart girls. But I go beyond the physical. I’m very picky.”

How much sleep do you get per night?

“Lately? Almost none! But after the contest, I’m trying to catch up. Six to eight hours are good enough for me. I have trouble sleeping, so I spend my waking hours at night playing the guitar. I wake up often to pee.”

Do you sleep in the nude?

“No. My favorite sleepwear is loose T-shirt and shorts. If I sleep without a shirt on, I catch colds.”

How many pillows do you sleep with?

“Two, but I never use any under my head. I move a lot when I sleep, so I hug the two pillows.”

Do you snore?

“Only when I’m very tired.”

Do you talk in your sleep?

“Yes, when I was a kid. My mom told me that I used to say the craziest things.”

Do you sleepwalk?

“No, I don’t.”

Last thing that you do before you go to sleep?

“I drink two glasses of water. They say it’s good for your heart.”

And the first thing that you do as soon as you wake up?

“I brush my teeth and drink two glasses of water.”

How’s your love life?

“Very good.”

And your sex life?

“Very good, too.”

Do you have a night life?

“Not much. I’d rather stay home.”

Your outlook in life?

“I’m an optimist. I try to see things in a better perspective.”

How do you cope with stress?

“I get a massage. Or I meditate.”

Favorite city?

“I really love Bangkok because  it was the first city that I visited away from home. I also love Sao Paulo and Manila, which are very similar.”

Favorite hideaway?

“The beach… with my friends.”

Name three women that you find sexy?

“Julia Quisumbing, Jennifer Aniston and Catherine Zeta-Jones.”

And three men that you think have nice bodies?

“Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Carlos Freire, who is my friend, one of the best models in New York and Los Angeles… he has been here.”

Using only body language, how would you make a woman know that you admire her?

“It’s in the way I look at her…which can say so many words. But as I’ve said, now that I have Julia, I don’t look at other women.”
