Man to ‘fly’ from Mt. Everest peak in ‘Everest Jump Live’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines- Can a human possibly jump off Mt. Everest, fly with just a wing suit and actually survive?

That is what Joby Ogwyn will try as Discovery Channel features his attempt to experience “flying” off Mt. Everest in an episode dubbed “Everest Jump Live.”

The viewer will take a look on Joby’s journey going up the mountain, which he has climbed several times now, and his actual jump off it.

“This is history in the making,” Group President Discovery and TLC Network Eileen O’Neill said. “Discovery Channel continues to bring live broadcast events unlike anything you’ll see on television.”

Discovery Channel will have a one-hour pre-show where people can see Joby’s preparations before his fight. Then the special coverage of his flight will last for two hours, making the viewers experience his actual climb and flight.

Joby’s suit will have cameras installed in his customized wing suit, so the viewers will have a close up view on what he’s experiencing and see from his point of view.

“This will be the final piece of my dream,” Joby said. “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve imagined what it would be like to fly. I can’t think of a more spectacular backdrop than Everest.

“Everything that I’ve ever accomplished in my life has just been practice for what I’m about to do.”

“Everest Jump Live” will be broadcast on the Discovery Channel in May 2014.
