Martin Escudero ‘happy’ with TV5

MANILA, Philippines - Martin Escudero doesn’t mind being the second choice to play the role of James in TV5’s upcoming teleserye “Obsession.”

The role was originally offered to Alwyn Utingco.

“Ako hindi, kasi blessed na nga ako, e,” Martin replied when asked if was hesitant to accept the role. “Alam kong may tamang character para sa amin."

“Nagulat nga ako kasi mabilisan lang ‘to, e, wala nga ako masyadong time kasi nagte-taping pa kami ng Positive nang ginawa ko ‘to. Kaya masaya ako kahit nagulat, kahit second choice, first choice, kahit ano pa man at least ikaw ang nailagay do’n,” he explained.

After the preview of the show’s pilot episode Friday night, January 17, many admired how Martin transformed again after doing his role in “Positive.”

In “Obsession,” which will air on January 23, 8P.M., he plays the role of a guy who makes Bernadette fall for him and eventually left her. But in the end, he falls prey to Bernadette’s revenge as she makes him fall for her transformation.

Martin was thankful that people were able to appreciate the efforts he exerts in portraying a role. He admits that it was “long process” for him to prepare for his character.

“Mahaba ang ginagawa kong preparations. Una, inaalam ko muna ‘yong character sketch ng gagawin [na role]," he said.

“Bubuo ako ng isang tao, pag-aaralan ko ‘yong isang tao, ilalagay ko do’n kung paano siya ngumiti, paano siya magsalita, lahat ng galaw niya then ipapasok ko siya sa sarili ko para maalis ko ‘yong personalidad ko at ‘yon ang makita ko sa akin,” he added.

He also admits that as an actor, “mas gusto ko na maging character actor kaysa maging matinee idol. Wala naman akong pinapaintindi na anumang bagay o parinig. Kasi para sa akin ano, e, ang iniipon ko ‘yong respeto bilang aktor, e, hindi ‘yong kasikatan.”

Happy with TV5

Since he transferred from GMA to TV5, Martin was able to explore more his craft, which is acting. He became adventurous and tried a variety of characters to portray.

Though he was thankful for the opportunities that his previous network gave him, he says that “sa totoo lang napakasaya dito sa TV5. Ito na ‘yong pinakamasayang network na napuntahan ko.”

“Hindi ko masasabi ‘yan kasi ano lang naman tayo, e, kung anuman ang mangyari doon tayo, e. Maaaring may magagawa rin akong iba kung hindi ako lumipat at iba rin kung lumipat ako," he also said.

“Ano lang naman, e, three years pa lang ako [sa TV5], e, napakatonti pa lang no’n kung kumpara sa iba,” Martin ended.
