The inseparable Tiongco Brothers

Romy Macalintal - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The younger generation may not know the musical talent and versatility of the legendary Filipino top trio, The Tiongco Brothers. But when these “young ones” hear and appreciate the “young once,” Jun, Emil and Arthur Tiongco’s melodious blending of voices, they join the entire crowd of senior citizens in giving the group a standing ovation for another exceptional and memorable performance.

The Tiongco Brothers of Sta. Rosa City, Laguna is an icon in Philippine music industry because it was this group that brought the Filipino brand of music in various parts of the world in the late ’50s and in the ’60s. Their  voices were heard as far as Asia, Australia, New Zealand and in the United States where they captivated the appreciative hearts of their audiences.  Indeed, there has never been a group of Filipino singers as adored as the fabulous Tiongco Brothers since then and until now.

Only recently, Emil and his wife Yollie (a sister of the late great Filipino actress, Charito Solis) celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with their close friends and relatives. It started with a renewal of their marriage vows at the Santa Rita de Lima Parish Church in Sta. Rosa City and a simple dinner reception at the Palma Real Residential Estates in Biñan City, Laguna.

After dinner, Emil was joined by his brothers, Jun, now 77, and youngest brother Arthur, 70, in entertaining their guests and adoring fans with the incomparable harmonious blending of their voices which, in the ’50s, were closely associated with the internationally-known quartet, The Four Aces.

At present, the brothers are still active in their singing career, although on limited engagements.  Their voices still command the respect, admiration and attention of their never-ending adoring fans because they remain the same humble and friendly trio despite their success in their respective fields of endeavors.

Emil was once a councilor of Sta. Rosa City where he served for three consecutive terms and later became a board member of the Province of Laguna. Arthur, likewise, entered politics and was also a councilor of Sta. Rosa. Jun did not have any inkling in politics but proved himself to be a successful businessman.
