Darryl Shy, family donate toys to child survivors of Yolanda

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Voice of the Philippines finalist Darryl Shy, wife Ann Angala and children donated to the toy drive of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI) Philippines and SEAOIL Foundation. The theme of the toy drive was “Give toys, make the children of the Visayas happy.”

A worldwide body of businessmen and professionals who minister to the spiritual needs of its members, FGBMFI is an interdenominational group with no political affiliation. It has chapters in key areas of the Philippines. Although primarily spiritual in orientation, FGBMFI Philippines responds to emergencies, and its members get involved in relief and rehabilitation support. It was one of the first to respond when Baguio was hit by a strong earthquake in 1991. A day after the earthquake struck, it dispatched a team to bring relief goods to survivors in the most affected communities in Baguio.

FGBMFI gave initial assistance to survivors of Supertyphoon Yolanda by distributing badly-needed food in the devastated towns of Basey and Marabut, Samar.

Now that the rehabilitation phase has begun, the Christian fellowship has opted to focus on children in the affected areas who have been traumatized by the experience: The death, the destruction, especially those who have lost loved ones and properties; not to mention the disappearance of entire communities. It launched a used toy donation campaign to bring Christmas cheers to children who survived Yolanda.

People who wish to donate toys, even books and other things children would need could drop them off at SEAOIL gasoline stations until Dec. 30. The FGBMFI team will do stress debriefing and counseling early next year in Northern Cebu, Samar, Leyte and Panay and will bring the toys with them.

Darryl is the latest recording artist of Star Records.
