Gab Valenciano hailed as ‘Super Selfie King’

MANILA, Philippines - Gabriel Valenciano is making waves in the international commu- nity with his super selfie videos on YouTube and Instagram. What started out as a pastime for Gab as seen on the hilarious selfie videos that he posted on his personal Instagram account as #SuperSelfieSaturday is now pro- fusely praised by online netizens and most recently on mainstream media in several countries around the world. Gab left the Philippines in the late summer of 2013 to pursue a degree in Recording Arts at the Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida. Full Sail is known for its impressive alumni and student body who are mostly composed of Oscar, Emmy and Grammy nomi- nees and winners.

Aside from being one of best dancers and performing artists in the country today, Gab also gained popularity as a musical arranger and scorer as evident from his body of work which includes his father Gary V’s re-arrangement of the huge hit Shout For Joy for the Rebirth album, Jericho Rosales’ smash hit Bumuhos Man Ang Ulan from his soap opera Green Rose as well as the musical scoring of Jericho’s award-winning, internationally-acclaimed movie Alagwa.

Gab is also one of the musical ar- rangers in ABS-CBN as he regularly, to this very day, produces and ar- ranges the most powerful and energy- filled production numbers of ASAP’s dance segment Supah Dance.

His first attempt at record produc- tion with Star Records made him bag three trophies for Best Dance Recording as composer, producer and performer for the song Move at the 2011 Awit Awards for the Supahdance Dance album.

Recently in the US, he won the grand prize for a Full Sail Instagram contest and he also produced, edited and arranged his own production number for his competition piece for Full Sail’s Got Talent where he not only bagged first place but also re- ceived a standing ovation as well, in October of this year. Just recently he joined his father’s concert in Coral Springs, Florida when Gary V staged a sold-out fundraising concert for the victims of Yolanda for PBASF of Miami.

Gab’s super selfie videos con- sist of out-of-this-world and very creative 15-seconder videos that pay homage to several icons of pop- culture from Batman to the ’80s cult favorite film Flashdance to throwback tributes to the dance moves the ’90s to the early 2000s.

Gab’s Instagram videos garnered over 1.5 million views and were noticed and re-uploaded by online news giants The Huffington Post, Yahoo OMG and Mashable which widened the reach and market of the clever and witty videos, which Gab created and edited himself.

While Dad Gary V was in Orlando, Gab made a super selfie video collaboration with his father. The 38-second video instantly received 650,000 views and hundreds of online com- ments in five days.

The online tandem of Gab and Gary was noticed by Good Morn- ing America, Fox News, Right This Minute, and Gab was featured as an international online YouTube sensation sweeping the US by storm. A mainstream TV net- work in Spain as well as locally on ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol Weekend picked up the story of Gab’s and Gary’s viral video craze. Gab has been receiving many offers to guest on mainstream US televi- sion shows.

Gab is scheduled to visit Manila for the holidays and he is gearing up for several shows and TV appearances as well as a much-anticipated comeback on the ASAP stage.
