He also recalled how he almost backed out of the project owing to the film's "demands."

“Napakalaki ng demands ng film. I was kind of scared kung kaya ko o hindi.

“So I’m really happy for this award. We worked hard for this.”

Aside from Joel, his nephew Alfonso Torre III or Borgy as he calls him,  also won the Best Director award for the same film.

“I’m very happy for Borgy,” he proudly said. “His first feature film nanalo siya agad, for short film nanalo rin siya. I think we have a winner in him!”

As the world of independent films becomes lively again, the renowned actor believes that “this is the future of film-making!”
