Hair Asia rallies the hair industry

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A different kind of relief crate will soon be en route to typhoon-ravaged Visayas and it won’t only be filled with food, water and medicine.

Hair Asia, organizer of the most prestigious hairdressing and makeup competition in the Philippines, is taking the lead in a donation drive to amass combs, scissors, shears, hairdryers and all other kinds of salon paraphernalia to be sent over to the Visayas.

“The donations we are pooling will include relief goods that are urgently needed by the typhoon victims like food, water, medicine and clothing,” clarified Hair Asia president Evelyn Cruz. “But we also intend to gather donations-in-kind, specifically meant to help hairdressers there to start over with their livelihood.”

Hair Asia will be holding its Salon Spectacular 2013 on Nov. 19 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City. The annual event — a hairdressing and makeup competition paired with a cosmetic expo — is attended by thousands of salon professionals and owners, hair and cosmetic purveyors, beauty enthusiasts and even early Christmas shoppers.

Cruz said the event will be the perfect time for the Hair Asia supporters and patrons to hand their pledges. Her working team is already busy sending out word of the donation drive to all attendees and participants.

Cruz has partnered with ABS-CBN Foundation’s Sagip Kapamilya to receive the pledges. A receiving booth manned by Sagip Kapamilya representatives will be set up near the registration area so participants can drop off their donations before proceeding to the main expo hall.

“In partnership with Sagip Kapamilya, we are confident that these particular items will find their way to hairdressers in those areas,” assures Cruz.

Cruz says she has already secured support and pledges from prominent hairstylists, and leading salon professional and hair care businesses. Several multinational cosmetic companies like L’Oreal Professionnel, Wella Professionnel, as well as celebrity hairstylists Teng Roma of Emphasis Salon, Alex Carbonell and Patrick Rosas have all committed to donate various salon products and equipment.
