Sean Erwin revives One More Try

Remy Umerez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Even before One More Try became the theme song of the controversial teleserye My Husband’s Lover (MHL), it was already in the line-up of songs for the self-titled album of Sean Erwin under Viva Records.

“What a happy coincidence that one of the OPM cover songs we picked turned out to be the theme for one of the biggest drama series of the year. It simply shows that you can never go wrong with a classic. I feel so privileged,” says the 21-year-old Sean, who hails from Orange County, California.

Another listening “must” is Sean’s take on How Do I Live by LeAnn Rimes.

“It was such a big hit while I was growing up in California and I thought it’s time to come out with a male version,” he says.

Sean also went for a Vehnee Saturno and Tito Cayamanda written song in No Longer Me And You and Gising Na.

Admittedly, singing in Tagalog was a big challenge.

“Growing up, my parents would speak to me in Tagalog that’s why I perfectly understand what Gising Na is saying. I feel lucky to be given the opportunity to sing songs written by two OPM masters. Speaking the local language is another matter though,” he affirms.

The crossover artist professed that his musical influences range from pop, ballads to classical opera. Sean was trained in Orange County’s School of the Arts and majored in Voice and Musical Theater. He also obtained his degree in Vocal Performance from UC Irvine.

The years of honing his musical skills were certainly put to good use while recording his self-titled album. An A&R executive said that Sean’s voice has a full-bodied timbre that is expressive whether he is singing his natural tenor or when he shifts to falsetto.

Currently, Sean is on an indefinite stay in Manila, promoting his album and at the same time discovering his roots.
