Kapuso stars in Camiguin’s Lanzones Festival

MANILA, Philippines - Excited Kapuso Camiguinons packed the Mambajao Provincial Tourism Center to the rafters in the recently-held Kapuso Night in Camiguin Island.

The stars of Walang Tulugan, Sunday All Stars, Pepito Manaloto and the new primetime show Genesis celebrated with their fans during the festival through activities especially prepared by the Kapuso Network’s regional group.

Event officials estimated a crowd of 7,000. John Feir and MK Sobrecayer of GMA Davao took care of the hosting chores, delighting the crowd with fun games and by giving away GMA merchandise and goodies from sponsors.

Gladys Guevarra electrified the crowd as she opened the show with her bubbly song and dance performances. Gladys sent everyone on a laugh trip when she invited three male teenagers to dance with her ala Gimme Gimme style.

First-timers in the island Bea Binene and Ken Chan put the people in “kilig” mood with their covers of popular hits including Ang Tipo Kong Lalake and Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang Dumating, which will be included in Bea’s second album to be released this November.

Bea has moved on from her breakup with Jake Vargas, and has found a new friend, the Walang Tulugan mainstay Ken, who cheered her up during her saddest time. “Nakita ko kung gaano sya nalungkot. And as a friend pinakita ko na I’m always here by her side,” said Ken during the interview.

Loud screams of loyal Kapuso Camiguinons dominated the venue as Rhian Ramos stepped on the stage and gave her blazing performances. Some of the fans were lucky as they got to dance, hug and even kiss Rhian during her song-and-dance medley.

The Kapuso Night will be featured in the Nov. 24 edition of Let’s Fiesta TV Special via GMA’s regional stations in Bicol, Cebu, Davao, GenSan, Bacolod, Cagayan De Oro City and Iloilo. GMA Regional Entertainment TV special features the country’s grandest festivities like the Lanzones Festival.

The annual festival, held every third week of October, is a thanksgiving celebration for the island’s bountiful harvest of the fruit that is Camiguin’s pride, the delicious “buwahan,” the indigenous name for lanzones.
