Our favorite Halloween sequels
MANILA, Philippines - Here are some great Halloween movie sequels to consider:
Harry Potter (with seven sequels). If the kids are watching or you’re up for something magical for the Halloween, then the film suits you. Nothing is really scary but expect to be amazed by the magic and effects you’re about to see. Harry and his friends are the best when it comes to wizardry. See if you can memorize those hard-to-pronounce spells.
Underworld (with a prequel and two sequels). Lately, the “battle of the creatures of the night†thing has been a fad among moviemakers. One of the famous ones is the film. Summing it up, Underworld is like an action and a horror movie in one — guarantee not to bore viewers. It won’t come as a surprise that fanbase of the film series keeps growing.
Twilight (with three sequels, the last one divided into two parts). If you are up for a romance-themed Halloween movie, then this is it for you. The film focuses on Edward and Bella’s love story that it lightens up the scare. Sure there are vampires, wolves and some scary scenes but these won’t be your concern once you get hooked with the love story.
Saw (six sequels). The title itself might already give an impression of violence. While this is true, as there are many such scenes, it is not all just about blood and gore. The movie is creatively done that all the sequels are connected to one another; even if early on the lead villain is already dead, it still makes up a whole story! — only a few Halloween sequels can do that.
Nightmare on Elm Street (with seven sequels and a remake). Even after many years, Freddy Kruger still has it. Right from its first release in 1984, He has never failed in his mission to bring scare to his viewers. The way he looks, laughs and especially, the claw and the sound it makes, they are the perfect formula for a Halloween movie — no wonder there’s a remake.
Friday the 13th (with 10 sequels and a remake). Jason and his unending revenge and hate towards camp councilors are the main reasons why he can’t rest in peace. Right up to the latest sequel, he is still up and haunting any councilors because he can’t get over the drowning incident that happened to him before due to councilors negligence. Well, Jason does hold a grudge very long, doesn’t he?
The Ring (with a sequel and a prequel). The original Japanese version is the best when it comes to watching The Ring and its sequel/prequel. This is where all those crawling ghosts and twitching moves began. After the film was shown, many others tried to copy or outdo Sadako, the villain, but nothing beats the original. Remember “the crawling out from the television†scene? Truly, it’s an original one.
Scary Movie (with four sequels). Now, if you want a laugh without scrapping Halloween, then the movie sure fits you. It is a spoof of famous Halloween movie scenes, mostly new ones, which seriously brought scare but were made as comedy by the film series. Well, horror movie has a lighter side after all.
Hell Raiser (with eight sequels. Some are direct to videos). Now, if you’re up for some weird, evil-looking characters, then this one is for you. Just by looking at the main villain will give you goose bumps and a feeling of disturbance. Still dare to watch? Then go for it and see what’s this curse about a puzzle box being a key to opening a strange world.
Scream (with three sequels). It seems like Sidney Prescott couldn’t escape the hands of the killers who want her dead. More and more characters are involved and murdered but Sidney still survives.
Yup, the movie does have a lot of screaming but that’s what viewers are looking for — no wonder the movie was a hit.
Final Destination (with four sequels). From the moment the first film was shown, viewers couldn’t help but look forward to the sequel and so it was a huge success until its latest fourth sequel. It has a unique plot that creates suspense as you watch and scare right after watching — making viewers wonder if death’s design is for real.
