Phil Younghusband: Angel and I remain friends

MANILA, Philippines - Football player Phil Younghusband said he and ex-girlfriend Angel Locsin remain friends despite their recent breakup.

In his first statement about the breakup after Angel’s admission of their split last Friday, Phil said on his Instagram account on Sunday, Oct. 27, that while they are no longer a couple, they are thankful they remain friends.

“We only wish the best for each other,” the 26-year-old athlete said on his Instagram post.

Phil also thanked his followers for their support amid the breakup via an Instagram photo.

Here is Phil’s complete statement as posted on his Instagram:

“Hi everyone, in lieu of the separation, I would like to thank you for all your support throughout our relationship. It was definitely a happy one, as much as we tried to make it work we would just like to request for all of you to support us in our choice and that we respect one another in keeping our personal lives to ourselves.”

“It is a sensitive matter and I personally apologize for taking time to let everyone know about the situation. I am grateful for your support and we hope you continue to support both of us in our each of our endeavors.”

“Neither of us regret the time we spent together, we enjoyed each others company and really made the most of it. There are no faults in this, it was not an issue of who did or didnt do something, it was a mutual decision and although it was difficult we just both felt that this would be the best thing to do given our circumstances.”

“Although we have parted as a couple, we are thankful that we remain friends and we only wish the best for each other. Thank you very much for your support.”

To recall, Angel admitted her breakup with Phil via an “official statement” posted on her Twitter account on Friday, Oct. 25.

Angel and Phil became a couple May of last year, after a year of dating that began with the football player extending a Valentine’s Day date invitation via Twitter.

A tabloid report published earlier this week said the two separated three weeks ago.
