Costumed Dolls Of The World, Part 2

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

Tomorrow, Oct. 24, is the 68th anniversary of the United Nations which was, noted Funfare’s “other beauty expert” Celso de Guzman Caparas, established in 1945 with 51 founding members including the Philippines.

“Gen. Carlos P. Romulo was the Philippines’ first Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN until 1953,” said Celso. “There are now 193 member nations, with South Sudan the last one to be accepted in 2011.”

The name United Nations was coined by US Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt.

As usual, on UN Day, schoolchildren will participate in the Parade of Nations dressed in the national costumes of different countries.

Did you know that, according to Celso, in 1963 a Miss United Nations pageant was held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, with 31 countries participating? Sweden’s Monica Ragby won.

This time last year, Funfare published a gallery of Costumed Dolls Of The World prepared by Celso. Here’s Part 2 of the gallery, featuring dolls by Mattel, mostly from the Dolls Of The World (DOTW) collection, also by Celso who has a priceless collection of Barbie Dolls, among them two wedding dolls by Eric delos Santos and a wedding doll by Frederick Peralta bought at an auction organized by Margie Moran for Ballet Philippines.
