Gian wants to ‘promote good vibes’ amid breakup with Sheree

MANILA, Philippines - Kapuso artist Gian Magdangal denied rumors claiming a third party caused his breakup with longtime girlfriend, singer Sheree Bautista.

It was reported last month that Gian and Sheree — who were together since 2007 — have broken up. In an interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal, Sheree refused to reveal the reason for their split. When asked if a third party was the cause, she said: “May naririnig ako, pero huwag po muna. Hindi ko pa masasabi.”

In an interview during the press launch of 9 Works Theatrical’s upcoming production of the stage musical “Grease,” Gian said he doesn’t want to turn breakup into a much bigger issue.

Asked by the press to defend himself against third party allegations, the 31-year-old singer-actor said: “Marami naman nadadawit na pangalan. Anybody can say that. I can say something also, but I’m not that guy.”

He added that Sheree’s version of the story is just “bits and pieces of a big story that nobody else will understand.”

“And the whole story is for ours to keep,” Gian said. “I just want to keep it at that.”

Gian said he still communicates and is in good terms with Sheree.

“Gusto natin mag-promote ng good vibes lagi. Positive. Until now, positive naman lagi,” he said of his relationship with his former girlfriend.

Gian and Sheree have a five-year-old son, Haley. He revealed they are currently taking turns taking care of their son.

“We’re taking it on a day to day basis. Nobody is a perfect parent,” Gian said. “Parenthood is something that’s very delicate.”

‘Pick up myself’

Right now, Gian is focusing on work — particularly in his role as Danny Zuko in the stage musical “Grease.” He plays opposite fellow Kapuso artist Francheska  Farr, who plays Sandy Dumbrowski.

The musical was made popular by the 1978 movie, wherein John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John played the lead roles.

The role poses as a challenge for 31-year-old Gian, as he has to portray a role of a teenager.

“I have to keep myself on my toes. Being 31 years old, kailangan bata ka pa rin gumalaw. At the same time, hindi ko rin kakalimutan yung mga natutunan ko sa theater to make the role right, to be clear with my story telling,” he said.

On a personal note, Gian said he uses his work as a means to pick himself up after his breakup with Sheree.

“I’m keeping myself busy with work. That’s what I’m really doing — concentrating on my work and whatever time I have with Haley, and spending a lot of time with my friends,” he said.

Gian added, “That’s what I’m all about — family. That’s why I’m concentrating on work, so that eventually if things go better I’d be able to step up.”

“Grease” will run from November 9 to December 1 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza in Makati City.
