Westlife's Shane Filan fears going solo

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines- Shane Filan is still trying to shake off his fear when his former group, Westlife, disbanded last year. The group officially separated after a farewell tour which included Manila.

“I was very scared about the idea,” Shane said in an interview Friday afternoon. “It was a hard decision, I was still scared. It’s something I need to get used to, and to get used to something you just got to do it.”

Shane is currently on a world tour for his self titled album "Shane Filan:Everything To Me."

The now solo artist said that the album is his way of thanking his supporters worldwide.

“I think it is a thank you for everybody who supported me,” he said.

Touring the world alone is something that scared Shane as well, but he overcomes this fear when he thinks of his family.

"I have three children to take care, I have a wife. My job is to take care of them, and I can say it’s a pretty cool job to have," he said.

Songs about life

As Shane talked about the songs in the album, the former boy band member made it very obvious that he loves his wife so much.

He shared that the song "When I met You," is about the night he met met his wife.

“Another songs is ‘All You Need to Know,’ is basically telling my wife that I’m gonna look after her, you know, that no matter what happens in my life I’ll gonna look after them. So it’s the simple things like that," he said.

Another cutin the album, 'About You,' is also about his wife.

"A husband could say that, I married you because I love you. It doesn’t matter if you’re having a bad day, I still love you," he said.

Shane as well related how he came about writing his carrier single "Everything About You."

He said he came up with the idea of the song while he was playing jigsaw puzzle with his daughter Nicole.

“So the first line of the song is ‘If life is a jigsaw,’ so I got that from the night before. I was thinking, it will be great, you know, plan out your life perfectly like a jigsaw. But you know it’s impossible to have a perfect one,” he said.

He said he would like people to "relate to my songs in a happy way, a positive way because it is about life. It is about being happy, being healthy.”

Shane knows that it would take time before people will get used to the idea that he’s on his own now, and that his music is different from the ones he performed with the former boy band.

His whole album will be released this November while his EP is already available in music stores.

Watch Shane Filan perform live in Manila tonight, September 28, at the SM North EDSA Skydome, and on September 29, Sunday, at The Podium.
