MANILA, Philippines - South Korean artist Hari — the singer behind the viral song and dance hit “Gwiyomi” — can’t believe the way her song became the sleeper hit that it is.

“Gwiyomi,” the Korean song that was released in South Korea in February, became an online hit when celebrities from all over Southeast Asia made their own version of the song’s hand gesture dance move.

Filipino celebrities such as Alodia Gosiengfiao, Heart Evangelista and Yeng Constantino also uploaded their own “Gwiyomi” dance on Youtube, helping make the song into a hit in the Philippines.

“I didn’t expect all this success and fame that I’ve been receiving right now. If not because of this song, then I won’t be here,” Hari said through an interpreter during a press conference at the Glorietta 5 Activity Center on Thursday, September 5.

Hari added she’s seen a lot of “Gwiyomi” versions online — including the ones from the Philippines.

“So I know how viral it went. I’m very surprised at first,” she said.

In fact, the 23-year-old K-Pop singer said her favorite version of the “Gwiyomi” dance is by a Filipina.

She doesn’t know who did the video but she “likes it so much because she had the best version of ‘Gwiyomi.’ She had long hair and is really cute and had a really great sense of style.”

Hari also wants to work with singer-actor Sam Concepcion, who did the “Gwiyomi” dance with her during the press conference.

“I heard that Sam is a good artist here. I want to do a collaboration with him in the future,” she shared.

Hari will perform at the Glorietta Activity Center on September 6, 6:40 PM; the Marquee Mall Activity Center on September 7, 6:30 PM; and the Ayala Center Ceby Terraces on September 8, 7 PM.

Here are photos of Hari performing the “Gwiyomi” with Kapamilya artist Sam Concepcion.
