COMGUILD Awards honors GMA

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - GMA News and Public Affairs was once again recognized for its excellence in broadcast journalism at the 2013 COMGUILD Awards held last Aug. 11 at the AFP Theater in Quezon City.

Widely-regarded as the country’s most-awarded broadcast journalist, Jessica Soho was hailed as the Most Popular Television Personality of the Year for being the “most admirable and most bankable personality on television.” She also received the Most Outstanding Female News Presenter of the Year award for the second consecutive year.

Soho, who currently anchors GMA 7’s news-magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, as well as GMA News TV’s flagship newscast State of the Nation (SONA) and news-magazine show Brigada, thanked COMGUILD for her two citations.

“The award is a big honor for me. This will inspire us to further improve our programs,” Soho said.

Also commended in this year’s awarding ceremony was GMA News anchor and senior reporter Kara David, who was named Best Female Field Reporter of the Year — her second straight win.

Similarly, GMA 7’s 24 Oras clinched its third consecutive win as the Best News Program of the Year. Anchored by Mel Tiangco and Mike Enriquez, 24 Oras was honored for its “fair presentation of the news, accurate reportage and strong impact to viewers.”

The COMGUILD Center for Journalism honors notable local broadcasters and news presenters via an awards committee composed of college deans, chairpersons and educators from different universities in the country.
