Idol Sa Kusina marks 2nd year

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Celebrate good food with Chef Boy Logro as GMA News TV’s weekend cooking program Idol Sa Kusina marks its second anniversary with a three-part special beginning tonight at 7.

Executive chef Pablo “Boy” Logro is a true Southern man with a penchant for adventure — and not just of the culinary kind. Bringing his taste for discovery and his entire Idol sa Kusina family, he sets out for the North to feed his hunger for something new, something different, something out of the ordinary. And he gets all that — and more.

First two dishes are Longganisabela Omelette paired off with Balatinao Salad. What’s longganisabela? The very own version of the classic longganisa by Isabelanons. It is neither fatty nor salty nor garlicky. Just perfect. And what is balatinao? It is the red rice variety popular in the Ilocos Region.

Then comes the classic Ilocano dish called Dinengdeng. The secret is the freshness of the vegetables used. And, yes, instead of pork or beef, this healthy dish features grilled fish. The flavors are distinctively Ilocano, uniquely Pinoy.

Chef Boy will also create a sumptuous dish using the processed meat of wild boar in Tinolang Manok With Itag. The episode caps with the concoction of Tanglad Iced Tea.  It tastes great as Chef Boy uses a different sweetener — panutsa, which comes from sugar cane molasses and adds a different dimension to sweetness.

Catch the first part of the second anniversary special of Idol Sa Kusina in Isabela tonight.
