Caparas accepts SC decision 'with sadness'

Camille Diola - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Film director Carlo J. Caparas said he is accepting "with sadness" the Supreme Court's decision invalidating his national artist award.

"Nandoon yung kalungkutan pero sabi ko nga, naging matatag na ako sa maraming panahon at sa kabila ng mga problema, sa kabila ng iba't ibang damdaming emosyonal, nagagawa ko pa ring pagandahin ang aking trabaho," Caparas said in a radio interview late Wednesday.

"Kumikilala ako ng batas. Sino ako para kuwestyunin ang hatol ng Korte Suprema?" he said.

The Komiks creator also refused to speculate on the motives behind the court decision, saying it simply was not his fate to earn the prestigious award.

"Ayokong paniwalaan at ayokong paglaanan ng isip na 'I was caught in a political cross fire' kasi baka nga sumama ang loob natin o makapagsalita tayo ng hindi maganda," he said.

Caparas promised that he will continue to work with the same intensity and level of creativity that he has been known for despite the high court's decision.

"Gusto kong ipangako sa lahat ng nakikinig at nanonood ngayon na hinding-hindi ko pa rin bibiguin ang hinahanap nila sa akin at hinihintay lalo na sa aking trabaho," Caparas said.
