‘Flowery’ movie titles

The Senate Bill 5655 (authored by Sen. Edgardo Angara) proposing to name Waling-Waling as National Flower (Pambansang Bulaklak) along with Sampaguita was vetoed by Pres. Noynoy Aquino recently. Understandable because there should only be one of each category, such as Bangus (National Fish), Maya (National Bird) and Tamaraw (National Animal).

Funfare’s “other beauty expert” Celso de Guzman Caparas is reminding readers that flowers play a prominent role in showbiz. Companies with flowers as names: Sampaguita Pictures (established in 1937), Sanggumay Pictures (1939), Everlasting Pictures (1954), Jasmin Tagalog (1961), Bulaklak Films (1961), Tagalog Ilang-Ilang Productions (1961), Rosas Productions (1968) and Lotus Films (1977), among them. Stars with flower names: Rosa del Rosario, Rosa Rosal, Rosa Mia and Bella Flores.
