The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Filipina-Dutch reigning Mrs. Globe 2013 Sheryl Lynn Baas has arrived in Manila to share her experiences after winning the prestigious international competition, as well as to do charity work for her Philippine-based foundation.

Baas represented Netherlands in the Miss World 2006 held in Poland where she competed against our very own Anna Maris Igpit. Baas was crowned Mrs. Globe 2013 in Newport Beach, California. The 5’9” professional model juggles her duties as a stepmother to a nine-year-old son while studying cultural anthropology and development sociology.

As Mrs. Globe, she is set to orient our country’s bet, Mrs. Philippines-Globe 2013 Ruby Jane Magsipoc-Lehmann. The Mrs. Globe 2014 World Finals is on Oct. 20 to 30 in Shenzhen, China.

Baas will also hold charity events to raise funds for her foundation in the Philippines. “Being active with many charitable organization as Miss Netherlands granted me the experience and opportunity to start my own foundation which has been active in different barangays on the island of Leyte with the focus on children education,” shared Baas.

Her mother Susan used to peddle wood on the streets of Leyte and skip school to help their parents afford a meal. Her mother’s experiences have inspired her to help poor kids in the country. Now 27, she uses her fame as Mrs. Globe to send school supplies, grant scholarships and raise funds for construction of school facilities in Leyte, where her mother was born.
