Pythons & whalesharks in Born tobe Wild

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - In the ’60s, anthropologist Thomas Headland caught on tape an image of a giant python in the forests of Aurora. The beast was killed by a local tribesman because he believed the snake threatened the community. Time and again, villagers recount stories of giant pythons killing young children in their sleep.

Tonight on GMA 7’s Born to be Wild, resident veterinarian Dr. Nielsen Donato continues his search for the biggest python of Casiguran, Aurora to determine whether snakes of this magnitude still thrive in the area.

In his first night of “herping” (searching for reptiles), Doc Nielsen discovers a meter-long mangrove snake. Snakes, especially pythons, are feared in Casiguran because these reptiles are believed to be vicious and will attack any sign of threat nearby. Join Doc Nielsen and his team as they discover the real nature of these fearsome creatures.

Meanwhile, guest host Mariz Umali meets the underwater giants of San Fabian, Pangasinan — the biggest fish known as the butanding or supok. Together with whale shark expert Elson Aca, Mariz tries to find out if these supok are the same variety of whaleshark that Born to be Wild had earlier documented in Cebu, Bohol and Sorsogon. Will the team succeed despite dangerous waves and strong currents?

Born to be Wild airs Wednesdays after Saksi.
