Will Giselle do a Vice Ganda?

Yugel Losorata - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - With the flak created by comedian Vice Ganda’s weight jokes directed at broadcast journalist Jessica Soho, the public understandably became all-too aware of comedy shows and the tendency of comic artists to take a dig at some unsuspecting people.

Giselle Sanchez, however, is one unlikely candidate to slip, especially that it’s her nature to be really careful about what she delivers on stage.

“I’m sure she would not do something of that sort,” related Fidji Miranda, marketing manager for the iron supplement Sangobion, which is presenting Giselle’s one-woman show at Megamall today.

The wholesome, apolitical Salaminkera, to be staged at the Event Center of the mall’s Building A lower ground level, is being described by Giselle herself as “a Vagina Monologues-type minus the word vagina.” Her character is inspired by the “evil queen” of the Snow White fame, tough she is expected to tackle relevant issues involving women.

“Giselle, who is a UP cum laude, is careful of what she is saying on stage. We chose her to be an ambassador for our brand because of her credibility,” Miranda noted of the celebrity endorser.

A press preview of Salaminkera was recently held at the Conservatory of Manila Peninsula in Makati. There she was seen dancing, singing and of course, talking the way she always does — excitedly quick-witted.

The show’s socially conscious theme, along with Sangobion being primarily a product combating iron deficiency, is one of the reasons Sanchez accepted the project which Stages asked her to do.

The multi-faceted personality quipped, “I thought before you can’t be funny and wholesome at the same time. So I’m proud to do a wholesome yet funny show for once.”

Elsewhere, the 12 Stone Music Festival continues today at the Piazza McKinley Hill where the record label’s acts are lined-up to perform. Comprising the 12 Stone current roster are Rocksteddy, Barbie Almalbis and Kitchie Nadal, along with rising groups Save Me Hollywood and Absolute Play, and singer-songwriter Ruth Legaspi.

The festival began last June 1 at Eastwood City in Libis, Quezon City. It will continue in campuses in Metro Manila and key cities in provinces.

Another music festival, Resorts World Manila’s Musikat Jam, just concluded yesterday night with Malaysian crooner Eric Moo’s Come Back To You concert.

The week-long festivities, mostly held at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre, interestingly featured a diverse gathering of artists like theater icons Pinky Marquez and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, jazz singer Bituin Escalante, ballad star Lani Misalucha and rock epitome Bamboo Mañalac.
