Funny summer with Viva’s comedians

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Viva Artists Agency’s top comedians Rufa Mae Quinto, Jon Santos, Giselle Sanchez and Petra Mahalimuyak are bringing the big laughs to the big screen, TV, concert stage and music scene.

Rufa Mae is poised for a big movie comeback with Miriam: Ang Huling Henya, an action-sci- fi-soap operatic comedy written and directed by Marlon Rivera, the director of the award-win- ning box-office hit Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank. Henya will showcase a reinvention for Rufa Mae who will not be playing her usual lovable dumb Booba character. In the Viva movie, she is the titular Miriam, a brilliant scien- tist and undercover agent who fights dimwits, mad scientists, assassins and zombies while searching for her missing par- ents. The movie will hit cinemas in the middle of the year. In the meantime, Rufa Mae continues to be seen every Friday night on GMA’s Bubble Gang.

Jon continues his own kind of undercover work as he brings his excellent impersonation skills to cable TV and the concert stage. He will guest star in the US leg of Sarah Geronimo’s 24SG Tour in May and in Australia in August. Meanwhile, he and his wacky multiple “personalities” continue to entertain viewers on cable in The Jon Santos Show, a weekly comedy talk show that airs on Viva TV (channels 57 on Cignal TV, 49 on Cable Link and 33 on Dream Cable).

Giselle has joined Jon on Viva TV with her own show called Karaokray. It’s an anything-goes singing contest like no other, where the winners are not nec- essarily the best singers but the most audacious and entertaining performers. Giselle herself will be making her own music with her soon-to-be-released debut al- bum of funny songs under Viva Records.

Internet sensation Petra Ma- halimuyak continues her steady crossover to movies with roles in two new films. The first is in the currently showing indie barkada comedy Coming Soon starring fel- low Viva artist Andi Eigenmann, whom Petra worked with in her first big-screen outing, last year’s blockbuster A Secret Affair. Then in July she will be seen along- side Marian Rivera and Richard Gutierrez in My Lady Boss. In the romance-comedy, she will play the role of Marian’s funnily ag- gressive secretary who has the hots for officemate Richard. Petra is also set to invade the world of music with a soon-to-be-released debut single from Viva Records. For details, visit www.vivaartist- sagency.
