Bands & solo artists jam together on Earth Day

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s longest-running environmental awareness concert for Mother Earth, Earth Day Jam, stages a brand-new environmental campaign, bringing on the critical global climate change issue straight to public’s doorstep.

The thematic shift may seem radical, but it is a necessary action plan, not merely to inform the public, which Earth Day Jam organizers have been actively injecting for more than a decade, but to get the public to start participating, to start taking action with what they can afford to contribute, in their own simple way, to the campaign’s overall realization.

“Climate change has reached its boiling point! It needs to be taken more seriously. It is what is pushing governments, the Philippines included, to take a more active stand towards genuine change, with the public realizing first-hand the dangerous effects of extreme environmental phenomenon. We want this (Earth Day Jam 2013) campaign to begin in your homes, the people in your community, and what you can contribute to really work,” said Earth Day Jam 2013 executive producer, Lou Bonnevie.

Featuring some of the country’s favorite rock bands like Rocksteddy, Callalily, Rivermaya, Sandwich, Moonstar 88, Ely Buendia’s new group called Oktaves with Nina,  Brownman Revival, Reggae Mistress, former 6Cyclemind frontman Ney, Lou, Kitchie Nadal and Barbie Almalbis with newbies Abra, Gracenote and Absolute Play.

Earth Day Jam 2013, which has turned into a traditional annual venue for aspiring and established Pinoy pop artists over the years, is seeking to bring in more personalities to embrace the concert’s pro-environment campaign.

“Earth Day Jam 2013 is a pop concert. We want people to have fun, enjoy the street party associated with Earth Day Jam’s celebrations,” said Lou.

Bridging the gap between the government (DENR), environmental organizations and the public, Earth Day Jam 2013’s free concert platform — which invites key environmental experts to speak about climate change — is studying the prospect of bringing the Earth Day Jam concert series outside Metro Manila.

Earth Day Jam 2013 is presented by Earthday Jam Foundation in cooperation with the Taguig LGU and DENR. It will be staged live on April 19 at the 34th St. or 9th Avenue of Bonifacio Global City in Taguig (beside the popular Mercato Night Market)  starting 6 p.m. and will be open to the public.

Sponsors include Smart Communications, Shell Philippines, Energy Development Corp., PCSO, PAGCOR with support from NLEX and Climate Change Commission, MYX, The Philippine STAR, Business World, Crossover and Radio High.
