Chichay and Tolindoy as Gorio at Tekla

REMEMBER WHEN? - Danny Dolor - The Philippine Star

In the ‘50s and even earlier, the tandem of Chichay and Tolindoy brought laughter to moviegoers and radio listeners.

One of their starrers was Sampaguita Pictures’ 1953 picture, Gorio at Tekla, written by Mars Ravelo for Tagalog Klasiks and directed by Olive La Torre (father of US-based singer and actress Sylvia La Torre).

Sharing stellar billing with Chichay and Tolindoy were Fred Montilla and Norma Vales and co-starring Ramon Revilla (former senator and father of Sen. Bong Revilla).

Tolindoy died in the late ’50s, but Chichay continued to appear in movies and radio-TV. In the early ‘80s, Chichay was chosen one of the Walang Kupas awardees, along such stars as Carmen Rosales, Rogelio de la Rosa, Rosa del Rosario and Leopoldo Salcedo. — RKC
