Celebrity Bluff offers unique weekend fare

Leah C. Salterio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - We’ve seen Eugene Domingo in a late-night TV show, Comedy Bar, with Allan K. We saw her display her acting talent in films like Ang Babae sa Septic Tank, Kimmy Dora and I Do Bidoo Bidoo. Recently, she was even voted Best Actress in Bona, the stage adaptation of the Nora Aunor starrer.

On TV, Eugene hosts a new weekly game show not for ordinary talents but for stars with Celebrity Bluff, which airs every Saturday night on GMA 7. Her co-hosts are comedians Wally Bayola and Jose Manalo.

Every week, there is a guest celebrity who joins Wally and Jose in giving out answers. Then there are three celebrity players at the start of the game who will attempt to outsmart one another as they compete for the prize money by correctly guessing the question.

For Round 1 (Unahan), the players will have to guess if the question is Fact or Bluff from a choice of three answers. Ano ang kakaiba sa ibong antpitta ridgely which was discovered in 1988? Interestingly, the bird barks and that’s what makes it different.

If the contestant is right, he wins the prize money which is P2,000. If he is wrong, the two other contestants divide the money equally,

Still in the same round, the money doubles to P4,000 as the contestants choose the cards with corresponding question. Ayon sa pag-aaral, mas mahaba ang buhay ng taong kaliwa o kanan magsulat? The correct answer is that right-handed people live longer.

Wally and Jose choose their answers and explain why. They are celebrity bluffers known as Gangnam and they can confuse or trick the contestants. In turn, the contestants can either agree or disagree if they choose Fact or Bluff. They can choose to accept or ignore the suggestion of the bluffers. At the end of the round, the contestant with the lowest money leaves the game.

For the second round which is Word War (Salpukan), the contestants guess the word which is jumbled as Wally or Jose acts it out in charades. The two contestants compete. The one who answers the four questions faster, given the time, wins the round for P15,000 and gets the chance to play for the jackpot.

Round 3 is Final Four (Sagaran), with three categories and the remaining contestant gets to play. There is only one question with six answers but only four are correct. Wally and Jose give their answers, but the contestant can opt for his own four choices.

For every correct choice or answer, the contestant wins P25,000. He can take home P100,000 if he gets all correct answers. Name the sexiest man alive according to People Magazine? The choices are Brad Pitt, Ashton Kutcher, Jude Law, David Beckham, Pierce Brosnan and Ryan Reynolds.

Brad Pitt, Jude Law, Ryan Reynolds and Pierce Brosnan are the correct answers. If the contestant guesses all four correctly, he gets to play for the jackpot with a chance to win half-a-million pesos in All the Way or No Way.

The game is fast-paced and the chance to win the prize money is easy if you know the correct answer. Wally and Jose may or may not give the right answer, so it’s really up to the celebrity contestant to guess whether or not the question is Fact or Bluff.

Celebrity Bluff is not just an ordinary game show (it is not a franchise), but an entertaining one which brings happier weekends to viewers. Uro de la Cruz of Bubble Gang fame directs the game show.

What with three talented comedians in one show, Celebrity Bluff (it airs after Extra Challenge, with Richard Gutierrez and Marian Rivera) is really out to thrill and offer a different fare for weekend viewers.
