2012 Quill Awards What TV5 won……and what ABS-CBN won

MANILA, Philippines - NEWS5 was given the most number of recognitions among other news organizations awarded at the recently-concluded 11th Philippine Quill Awards. TV5’s news arm received two Awards of Excellence for online news portal InterAksyon.com and emergency response unit RESCUE5, as well as an Award of Merit for its Higit sa Balita, Aksyon campaign.

Regarding these recent awards, NEWS5 chief Luchi Cruz-Valdes said the news organization is even more committed to public service via responsible and truthful journalism. “More than a validation of what NEWS5 has been striving for these past years, we are truly thankful to IABC Philippines for recognizing how we as an organization have helped empower our fellow Filipinos. We take these awards as a continued sign of faith from the Filipino people.”

Online news portal InterAksyon.com clinched an Award of Excellence for Communication Skills division (Electronic and Digital Communication category) for the second consecutive year. Editor-in-chief Roby Alampay, managing editor Chuchay Fernandez, InterAKTV editor Jaemark Tordecilla and web production and social media manager Jino Nicolas were on hand to receive the award. InterAksyon was also a finalist for the Top Award in Communication Skills at the said award-giving body.

Furthermore, NEWS5 Public Service head Sherryl Yao and news anchor Paolo Bediones led the RESCUE5 team in receiving an Award of Excellence for Communication Management (Multi-audience Communication category) for the internationally-recognized emergency response unit. This week, RESCUE5 will also head to Melbourne, to present its efforts and best practices at the World Public Relations Forum 2012.

NEWS5’s overall campaign Higit sa Balita, Aksyon bagged an Award of Merit for Communication Management (Marketing Communication category). The same marketing campaign also won bronze for Best Media-initiated Campaign at the Tambuli Awards organized by the University of Asia and the Pacific.

ABS-CBN Corporation won eight recognitions at the 11th Philippine Quill Awards where it bagged the most number of awards among TV networks, including the Top Award in Communication Skills division for DZMM.com.ph (http://dzmm.com.ph/).

Dzmm.com.ph, which bested all entries in the Philippine Quill’s communication skills division, also received an Award of Excellence in the electronic and digital communication category.

DZMM also received an Award of Excellence for its annual fun-run for a cause, Takbo Para sa Karunungan Year 2012. More than 4,000 runners turned up for the event, which was staged by DZMM for the 13th year now, that enabled the AM station to earn about P1M from race kit sales and sponsorships for the benefit of 75 select scholars from areas devastated by the recent typhoons.

ABS-CBN Regional Network Group (RNG) won an Award of Excellence for its Choose Philippines campaign that was initially intended to showcase new tourism discoveries in the country.

ABS-CBN Corporate Communications won an Award of Excellence for its online competition Kapamilya Hottie 2012 among its employees to promote healthy living. The company-wide contest saw the participation of 16 hot female and male contestants from various ABS-CBN divisions and subsidiaries and successfully generated heightened interest among its internal publics.

ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management won an Award of Excellence for the company’s summer station ID Pinoy Summer Da Best Forever, that highlighted the network’s beliefs and values and affirmed its role as responsible and influential media entity. The Pinoy Summer Da Best Forever generated positive feedback and created a viral hype urging Filipinos to create and upload their own versions of the station ID.

Lastly, ABS-CBN’s tribute to the Philippine Comedy King, Salamat, Tito Dolphy, won a Finalist award.  The event marked the first public viewing of the comedy icon’s remains and a necrological service that looked back on his legacy as an entertainer and a Kapamilya.
