Miss Chinatown Phl celebrates Fil-Chinese culture and beauty

MANILA, Philippines - Another culturally enriching beauty search is set to make waves in the beauty pageant scene with the launching of Miss Chinatown Philippines which was formally introduced to the members of the media by pageant director Alexis Go (2009 Miss Philippines Earth runner-up) last Friday, Nov. 9, at the Gloria Maris Restaurant in Greenhills, San Juan City.

“The Miss Chinatown Philippines pageant was conceptualized to serve as a unifying event for Fil-Chinese communities. It will redefine Fil-Chinese beauty and pave the way for better business relations, and realize cultural and artistic goals. Soon, we hope to be able to conduct a worldwide search in every Chinatown in every country all over the world,” explained Go.

Gracing the affair were San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez and Vice Mayor Francis Zamora; and Miss Earth 2012 beauties of Chinese-descent Miss Chinese Taipei Jen-Ling Lu, Miss Mongolia Battsetseg Turbat and Miss Singapore Phoebe Tan. Also present were Lorraine Schuck and Peachy Veneracion, executives of Carousel Productions; Wilson Agbayani and Tony Lim, managing directors of Miss Chinatown Philippines, Inc. 

The nationwide search is for Fil-Chinese beauties between 18 to 25 years old, at least 5’4” tall, with distinct talent and must be fluent in either Mandarin or Fookien. Screening of applicants is now ongoing until Dec. 19 at the Miss Chinatown Philippines office at #7 Ideal Street, Brgy. Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City, with contact numbers 632-7241810/724-1820 and e-mail address: [email protected]. Fifteen to 20 beauties will be chosen as official candidates.

Miss Chinatown Philippines is in partnership with the City of San Juan which is known for its progressing Chinese community and Carousel Productions, Inc., producer of Miss Philippines Earth and Miss Earth pageants. 

The coronation night will be telecast on ABS-CBN on the eve of Chinese New Year, Feb. 9, 2013, at the San Juan Arena. The winner, and first and second runners-up will receive P500,000, P300,000 and P200,000 in cash prizes, respectively. —Reported by CELSO DE GUZMAN CAPARAS
