What's up with Derek Lorenzo after Anna Banana?

The Philippine Star

Manila, Philippines -  With more than 1.6 million YouTube views and new celebrity hosting gigs, the status of Derek Lorenzo (photo) as Internet sensation continues to rise thanks to Mama Berns and PLDT myDSL.

Derek has gained over 1.6 million views for his catchy song Anna Banana along with 618 followers for his YouTube profile in three months. To think that it all started with just 100 hits from one avid fan, Mama Berns. The story proves that the road to fulfilling dreams begins with the connections made at home.

Mama Berns believed in Derek before anybody else was paying attention to his popular melody, composed of rap and pop music chorus lines. Mama Berns promoted the video across Facebook, Twitter and her blog, to encourage people to help make Derek’s dream come true.

With Anna Banana’s distinction of having been ranked by TV Patrol as among the Top 10 YouTube videos in the Philippines, Derek’s living life under the spotlight with Great Payday Sale mall tours to meet and greet his loyal fans and followers. Most recently, the 13-year-old was selected as a presenter for the Yahoo! OMG Awards, where he rubbed elbows with A-listers like Lovi Poe, Solenn Heussaff, Isabelle Daza and Raymond Gutierrez.

With so many things going for Derek, many fans are left wondering whether they’ll ever see Anna — the girl who inspired him to write and perform his song on www.youtube.com/annabananadsl. For now, the teenager continues to pursue his dreams with the relentless support of his family.
