Alden tackles fan support and acting craft
MANILA, Philippines - One of the most promising young actors of today, Alden Richards (photo) is already showing signs of maturity, with his close look at the essentials of fan support and acting where he is earning critical acclaim.
At first glance he may just be another handsome celebrity blessed with a fan base borne out of showbiz love teams. But a deeper analysis to his persona reveals an actor who has found the key to excellence, and a matinee idol who cares about his fans in a really professional stance.
Now enjoying his first taste of a primetime teleserye lead role, opposite his screen partner Louise Delos Reyes, Alden is embracing the challenge of how he and his love teammate will be able to sustain the chemistry now ongoing between them which has translated to good fan support. “We’re thinking about sustainability as a way of thanking the fans. If we could maintain the chemistry then we will always deserve the support of the viewers,” he said in an interview.
Alden plays Tisoy while Louise acts as Elize in the current GMA-7 hit series One True Love where they go about tackling the power of love that bridges people of different status. Louise herself is feeling positive when it comes to her professional ‘friend’: “Alden is very caring and a gentleman. He always asks me if kumportable ba ako sa mga scenes namin.”
Proving the show’s great mass appeal and success, One True Love was extended for another five weeks. It means that there’s more to anticipate for the colorful and dramatic plot of this primetime hit. Also, Alden’s acting is continuously praised by TV critics and the press people.
Alden’s breakthrough performance as young Luis in the psycho-thriller film The Road earned him nods all over, including a Golden Screen Awards citation this year. What’s amazing is the fact he didn’t go through a workshop to muster the sinister character he needed to portray. His career-defining delivery came naturally.
“I just read the script very well and let loose sa character as young Luis,” he recalled.
Also known for the good job he did on Alakdana and My Beloved where he stole scenes as a thief, Alden was recently cited by Mega magazine as one of the Kapuso network’s new breed of rising talents — a recognition that makes him “proud and overwhelmed.”
Asked about his top influences as actor, he dropped the names of Johnny Depp and Dingdong Dantes. He thinks Dingdong has a strong, likable attitude worth-emulating — something he’s been showing, too, on and off camera.
