Press sneaks a majestic peek at The King And I

MANILA, Philippines - Members of the Press were treated to another world-class offering as Resorts World Manila presented an exclusive preview of its latest Broadway musical production, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King And I, at its state-of-the-art Newport Performing Arts Theatre (NPAT), last Saturday, July 28, 2012.

Media personalities and guests were greeted by two gigantic elephant statues onstage, adorned with Thai-inspired ornamentals, as the giant LED backdrop of the NPAT morphs into various landscape settings intended to complement each scene.

The talented cast, headlined by no less than Miss Saigon luminaries Leo Tavarro Valdez as King Mongkut and Monique Wilson as Anna Leonowens, performed excerpts from the highly-anticipated musical including Getting To Know You, I Have Dreamed, Shall We Dance, and Something Wonderful to the delight of the attendees. Other prominent stage artists who performed for the preview were Tanya Manalang who plays Tuptim, and Lorenz Martinez as Lun Tha, both of whom are alumni of the concluded Resorts World Manila production of The Sound Of Music. Versatile recording artist, stage and film actress Ms. Gina Respall, who reprises her role as Lady Thiang from the UK production of The King And I, also delivered her noteworthy renditions from the musical.

Directing the musical is Freddie R. Santos.

The King And I, which premiers on Sept. 15, is the third stage offering of Resorts World Manila, in cooperation with Ultimate Entertainment.
