For Richard: No small roles, only big challenges

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - For TV-film-stage actor Richard Quan, there are no small roles. Being an actor in for almost two decades in the business, he turns those small roles into big performances.

It’s no wonder that even if new actors are being introduced in the entertainment industry year after year, Richard is one actor that film and TV directors can rely on.

“It’s because I don’t really complain,” he says. “I just want to know how my director wants me to portray a particular role. Kahit na nagawa ko na ang isang role like a dad, a best friend or kahit na kontrabida. I try to make it different the next time. Para may ibang dating — may ibang flavor. If I’m assigned to do a particular role, I make sure I give it my best. Nothing but the best.”

After portraying a heartless stepfather to Heart Evangelista in the primetime GMA 7 series Legacy and as a single parent caring for five daughters on NET 25’s Five Girls and a Dad, Richard is part of two different TV series from two TV networks.

Richard plays a widower who cannot connect with his only daughter on GMA 7’s Together Forever. His daughter is played by Julie Anne San Jose.

Over at TV5, Richard plays a manananggal, a hideous creature of Pinoy folklore in the supernatural mystery drama Third Eye. The series will start airing tomorrow, July 29, and topbills Eula Caballero as an innocent teen who has the power to see and interact with mysterious creatures.

On the big screen, Richard is filming the horror film Amorosa with Angel Aquino, Enrique Gil and Ejay Falcon for Star Cinema Productions. It is directed by Toppel Lee.

He is also part of the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival 2012 entry Intoy Syokoy Ng Kalye Marino that stars JM de Guzman, LJ Reyes and Joross Gamboa. Lemuel Lorca directs the indie film.

Richard also finished a digital short film for Sun Life Financial Philippines known as Sun Shorts. These are regional short film projects called Experience the Sun, which is a collaboration between Sun Life Financial and filmmakers in Hong Kong, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Richard shot the Sun Short titled 1945 with Angel Aquino under the direction of Jun Reyes. It is now showing, together with the other Sun Shorts, at www.experiencethesun.com.ph.

On the side, Richard is still continuing his charity work for the Aeta community in Porac, Pampanga. Last May, he distributed clothes, food and footwear to Aeta families.

His next charity project will happen in October where he will be sharing his blessings with other charitable institutions.
