It's wartime in showbiz!
Remember the battle cry of the Age of Aquarius?
Yes: Make love, not war!
Sadly, what’s happening now in showbiz is the reverse. Everybody is clawing at everybody, cutting each other to pieces. Are the stars in the heavens not aligned for peace on earth and goodwill towards each other’s fellowmen? Has the Year of the Dragon anything to do with it?
It’s wartime in showbiz!
Year 2012 is barely halfway through and already, most of the happenings are all about waging war and not making love.
• Mo Twister tweeted ex-girlfriend Rhian Ramos to near extinction but luckily, Rhian was able to bounce back although not totally. (She has just walked the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of The Road, directed by Yam Laranas.)
• Dr. Vicki Belo dropped long-time lover Hayden Kho. A third party (what else?) was involved but no video evidence this time.
• Like the war in Afghanistan, the word war between Annabelle Rama and Nadia Montenegro has not eased up and might have drawn into it, although by another provocation, Amalia Fuentes and Annabelle’s daughter Ruffa Gutierrez. The protagonists have shifted arena from national television and the tabs to the courts.
• Two foreign-bred Azkals were accused of sexual harassment by Cristy Ramos, a sport official, giving football a black eye.
• Sharon Cuneta fought against her Twitter detractors and, with a little comment about her husband Sen. Kiko’s differences with her Uncle Sen. Tito Sotto, unwittingly revived political bad blood between her and her Aunt Helen Gamboa. After an exchange of hurting words, aunt and niece buried the hatches not on each other’s back but in a sweet reconciliation (initiated by Helen and Tito’s daughter Ciara) during Helen’s recent birthday bash where Sharon came as a “surprise gift.”
• Katrina Halili, heavy with her and boyfriend Kris Lawrence’s love child, and co-star Marian Rivera in a life-imitating-art head-on collision. In the GMA soap My Beloved, Katrina plays kontrabida and Marian the bida.
• Cristine Reyes proved that, to quote Sharon in one of her tweets, “blood is not always thicker than water” by not only badmouthing her older sister Ara Mina but opening a Pandora’s Box about Ara’s private life in words that even the hungriest wolves couldn’t swallow. Ara sued Cristine.
• Oh now, it’s Mo Twister again in the hot seat, spreading a “hashtag” (actually, “a joke”) on Twitter that Charice has a sex video. Charice said that Mo better hire a good lawyer. Magic 89.9 management suspended US-based Mo for two weeks.
• Almost within 24 hours, violence erupted on two fronts — one, Albie Casiño accusing a group of guys of roughing him up at a bar. Albie’s mom said that the suspects were friends of Andi Eigenmann, the ex-girlfriend mother of Albie’s (unrecognized) love child. Before the brawl, Albie accused Andi of splashing wine on his face. And two, the so-called “Thrilla in NAIA” involving Mon Tulfo against the group of couple Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto. Barely an hour after it happened, the incident became world news among Filipinos overseas, thanks to YouTube.
What makes showbiz denizens such war freaks?
I know what: Hotheads may be influenced by the searing summer. The “hate” wave is deadly, or didn’t you know?
US Consul General & wife read love poems
US Embassy Consul General Michael R. Schimmel and wife Susan will be the guest poem readers of election lawyer Romy Macalintal in his radio program The Law of the Heart is Love this Saturday (May 12), 8 to 9 p.m. over DWBR, 104.3FM.
Their episode was pre-taped Thursday (May 10) where Michael read three love poems by James J. Metcalfe and one Tagalog poem specially composed for him by Romy. On the other hand, Susan will read the poem Mother’s Prayer on behalf of all mothers as she thanks mothers all over the world on Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 13. Earlier on the program, Romy will read a love poem for all mothers.
Romy told Funfare Update, “I was so impressed at how Michael expressed his sincere love and devotion to his wife Susan to whom he dedicated all the love poems he read with much inspiration and feeling.”
The Schimmels will be celebrating their 28th wedding anniversary this coming July, maybe in Tagaytay City. During the interview, Romy gathered that the Schimmels enjoyed travelling in the Philippines reaching as far as Palawan, Bohol, Surigao and other tourist spots which they considered as real wonders of the world.
