Kenyo debut in Gran Matador concert series

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Kenyo was the featured band in the Gran Matador concert series’ stop last April 14 at the Alcala Sports Center in Lucena City.

Kenyo, led by Mcoy Fundales, played the Gran Matador Light radio jingle Gaan na Gusto Ko as part of its regular repertoire made up of vintage rock, British pop, Manila Sound and Filipino kundiman.

Mcoy revealed his group enjoyed writing and performing the Gran Matador Light jingle as it also marked Kenyo’s stint as brand endorser. “The song Gaan na Gusto ko fits the band’s style of music very well. It is a very catchy tune and has great recall. It is a great addition to the band’s live set list and does not fail to pump up the crowd,” said Mcoy, whose band will be joined by Rocksteddy and Shamrock in one of the concerts scheduled all around the country the whole year round. Other gigs will be held in Naga City on April 28; Pulilan in Bulacan, May 11; and June 22 in San Juan City.

Mcoy, also frontman of the Kenyo predecessor Orange and Lemons, also said that he considers the endorsement as one of the band’s biggest breaks. “It is an honor and privilege for Kenyo to be part of the Ginebra San Miguel family. The band is thankful and excited to work with everyone in Ginebra San Miguel.”

Just like in its endorsement, Kenyo is also eager for a chance to work with established Filipino talents like APO Hiking Society, Rey Valera, John Lesaca, Gary V., Lea Salonga, Cynthia Alexander and Arnel Pineda. Kenyo is set to release a new single after its Maharlika (2009) and Radiosurfing (2008) albums.

The band is also preparing for a concert tour in the Southeast Asian region aside from the Gran Matador gigs. “It’s more travel, more music, more opportunities to reach out to Pinoy music fans and more fun,” Mcoy concluded.
