Thelma reaches worldwide audience

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The thought-provoking movie Thelma produced by Time Horizon Pictures continues to reap acclaim in and out of the country as it reaches more audiences.

The Maja Salvador-topbilled film was recently honored with four major awards in the just-concluded 28th Star Awards handed down by the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) for this year.

Thelma was adjudged the Movie of the Year in the Digital Film category, Best Director for Paul Soriano, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematographer.

Thelma, a maiden production of Time Horizon Pictures film outfit, has embarked on a campus tour, been brought to the provinces for special screenings and has graced film festivals abroad since its first public exhibition last year.

The movie has done the rounds of film festivals in the following: at the 31st Hawaii International Film Festival in October; 22nd Cinequest Film Festival at San Jose, California last February and March; Cleveland International Film Festival at Cleveland, USA last March and April 1.

In June, Thelma will participate at the Madrid International Film Festival in Spain where it has been nominated for Best Feature Film and Best Cinematography. In August, it will be at the third New York City International Film Festival.

Thelma, starring Maja, Tetchie Agbayani, John Arcilla, Eliza Pineda, Jason Abalos, Sue Prado and Elma Muros, is the story of a simple young girl from the province whose family is beset with challenges when she discovers her uncanny gift of speed. Her talent then opens doors for her — to elevate her family’s situation and change the course of her own life. But to do that she will have to run against all obstacles, personal hindrances, shadows from her past, and her own self-doubts.
