Bringing comfort food to another level

For many years after The Buzz, I would bring Nanay to dinner in different hotels. She loves the smell of hotels. Among her favorites are Shang Makati, Sofitel and Mandarin. I still hope that one of these days, we would resume our hotel dates. We eat anything with joy and laughter. My palate is wild, untrained and proudly provincial. I love steaks as much as I love pares and bulalo.

It’s heartening to know that right in the heart of Pasig City is a new restaurant that is set to bring comfort food to another level — Milky and Sunny. Located at 9 East Capitol Drive, Bgy. Kapitolyo in Pasig, Milky and Sunny is a cozy restaurant that whips up your favorite food with a twist.

I first heard about Milky and Sunny through Mariel Rodriguez and Bianca Gonzalez. Bianca in particular raves about the food, “I love how cozy Milky and Sunny is. It’s a great place to unwind with friends after a long day at work. Yummy comfort food galore!” While Mariel chortles that she totally forgot her diet when she ate in the resto, declaring that their Tapa is “to die for!”

Good friend Pia Magalona is said to frequent the place, too. She apparently discovered the place when it just opened and tried it out of curiosity. And she went back and back again, bringing her kids, among them her eldest Unna (who now works in Procter and Gamble), Maxene Magalona, rising matinee idol Frank Magalona, “It” girl Saab, teen heartthrob Elmo and her young ones Arkin (a dead ringer of his father, the late-great Francis M) and Clara (who I heard is turning out to be a creative artist with a wonderful voice). Pia said, “Since we also live in Pasig, we’ve tried all the restaurants nearby and I must say that Milky and Sunny is my favorite. My kids totally agree with me that’s why when I ask them where they want to eat, they always point to Milky and Sunny! They’re not kidding when they say that they’re the sunniest resto in the metro!’”

Runaway best sellers of the restaurant, besides the tapa are the other rice meals (sausage, chicken, corned beef, etc.) and pasta dishes such as Bacon and Spam Pasta, Bolognese and Sardines Pasta. Milky and Sunny specials such as enchiladas (flour tortillas with spinach, mushrooms and beans with salsa and cheese), chicken and waffles (chicken breast tenders, bacon and cheese tucked in between waffles) and their omelettes (from vegetable to Italian and Western) are some of the savory meals that people would order again and again.

Meanwhile, their sweet sensations like strawberry cream cheese pancakes, choco hazelnut French toast, choco marble pancakes and bananarama pancakes are in the must-eat list too of their patrons as their pancake batter is made from scratch.

Pasta dishes are also available for potluck that can serve eight to 10 persons.

One of these days, I wish I could bring Nanay to Milky and Sunny.

Crosstown Traffic

 Here’s some good news from Matt Lubetich head of Evening Sea Entertainment and formerly COO of Bigfoot Entertainment. In what is the first of several literary acquisitions of the company, Matt Lubetich announces that Evening Sea Entertainment has optioned the action-adventure screenplay Crosstown Traffic. Lubetich was previously COO of Bigfoot Entertainment for several years operating throughout Asia.

Crosstown Traffic, written by multi-hyphenate Dave McVeigh, centers around a poor cab driver who must rely on his own instincts and moral compass to prevail over adversity while tracking down a group of bank robbers.

Dave has previously written, directed, edited and produced documentaries and marketing content for DVDs and cable. He is the creative director at www.CreativeAsylum.com. Crosstown Traffic is his first optioned feature.

Set to direct Crosstown Traffic is Kristoffer Villarino. Born and raised in the Philippines, Kristoffer is well-suited to bring forth the action-packed gritty realism that is at the core of Crosstown Traffic. Previously, he has edited features, including The Girl With No Number and Midnight Movie.

Based in Los Angeles, California, Evening Sea Entertainment hopes to have four to six screenplays optioned in the coming months.
