Gus stands up against hazing

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Hazing still exists in fraternities in spite of media coverage of deaths of neophytes who sought admittance to these exclusive organizations.

Join Gus Abelgas tonight on ABS-CBN’s Krusada as he goes up against the perpetuating culture of violence in fraternities in the country. The recent killing in an alleged hazing incident of 25-year-old Marvin Reglos, a San Beda College freshman law student who wanted to join the Lambda Rho Beta Fraternity, shows just how prevalent hazing rituals are in brotherhoods.

“We should not forget that hazing is a crime that needs to be stopped. People who promote and perform this brutal activity should take responsibility for their actions,” Gus said.

Gus will interview lawyer Joey Lina, author of the Anti-Hazing Law or R.A. 8049, and Sen. Vicente Sotto III, an anti-hazing advocate, to get their thoughts on the apparent ineffectiveness of the law.

Gus will also uncover the horrifying initiation experience of a former neophyte and the thoughts of a frat man and doctors on the violent ritual.

Listen, take part and be one with Gus’ crusade because it takes more than words to make a stand. Watch Krusada, which is nominated in the Social Issues/Current Events category at the prestigious 2012 New York Festivals International Television & Film Awards, after Bandila or earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable Channel 26) at 9:15 p.m.
