The Cranberries coming back to Manila
MANILA, Philippines - The Cranberries will return to Manila for its much-awaited Greatest Hits Concert on April 10 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The Irish rock band, one of the world’s biggest music acts in the ’90s, first staged a concert in the Philippines in 1996. It gained fans worldwide with hit songs Linger, Zombie, Ode To My Family, Animal Instinct, Ridiculous Thoughts, among many others, which are now considered rock classics.
Stephanie Uy, president of Karpos Multimedia Inc., the producer of the said concert, said, “The Cranberries is going on tour from March until July, and we’re very lucky because the Philippines is the only country that the band is visiting in Asia. We can’t wait to have the group here,” she says.
Pinoy band Franco will be the front act.
The Cranberries is composed of vocalist Dolores O’Riordan, guitarists Noel Hogan and Mike Hogan and drummer Fergal Lawler. The group has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide and climbed the Billboard 200 chart with its records.
It was in 1996 when it first came to the country for its To the Faithful Departed tour. In early 2000, however, the group went on a hiatus with its members concentrating on solo projects. In 2009, the group reunited for a successful tour of North America and Europe. It has also recorded its sixth album titled Roses. In an interview with Billboard.com, Dolores said of the making of the album, “It really came together really nicely. A lot of the tracks were written without really thinking about them. They just came. I suppose we had more respect for each other and what we were doing.”
