Chinese New Year 2012 at Manila Hotel

-

MANILA, Philippines - In keeping with tradition, Manila Hotel is welcoming the Year of the Water Dragon with a grand festivity for luck and prosperity. Dragon dances, fireworks, and a special consultation by international feng shui expert Marites Allen will mark the Chinese New Year celebration at the Manila Hotel.

On Jan. 22 to 23, the Manila Hotel Lobby Lounge is opening its doors for a grand Chinese New Year bazaar featuring different stores   lucky charms, house decors, Chinese delicacies and other great buys for the year.

The countdown to the Chinese New Year will begin at 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 22 with the dotting of the Dragon Eye.

Allen will then conduct incense lighting, blessings, and rituals to usher in the Year of the Water Dragon. As the clock strikes 12 midnight, Allen will give out her predictions and forecasts for 2012 as she shares her expertise in geomancy and feng shui. A horoscope book and lucky charm from Allen will also be given to guests who will participate in the celebration.

As the sky lights up with a colorful firework display, guests will delight at the auspicious meal prepared by Manila Hotel executive Chinese chef Sun Bing. As an important part of the feast, the dishes will be symbolizing luck, longevity, and wealth for the coming year.

The hotel’s Mabuhay Palace is offering a wide array of sumptuous meals including Steamed Garoupa Fillet in Brown Sauce, Dried Fried Shrimp Glazed with Almonds and the traditional Nian Gao.

Fish, which is usually served whole, is an important part of the meal as it symbolizes abundance for the year ahead. The fried shrimps, on the other hand, signify happiness and well-being for the entire family. A permanent dish on the dining table, the Nian Gao or Tikoy symbolizes the togetherness of the family and its usual circular shape represents the never-ending flow of luck.

Regular tickets to the Chinese New Year celebration at the Manila Hotel are priced at P2,188 and premium tickets are priced at P3,188.
