Special effects make-up artists face off on AXN Beyond

MANILA, Philippines - Enter the magical world of world-class special effects and makeup artistry as AXN Beyond brings to the Philippines the new reality-competition series Face Off, premiering Jan. 9, 2012 with double one-hour episodes airing every Monday night at 7:35. The eight-episode series will feature 12 aspiring special effects makeup artists who will compete for a shot at successful makeup effects, stardom and the chance to break out in the competitive field.

The talented upcoming special effects makeup artists will create amazing works of art as they are tasked with elaborate feature challenges, including executing full-body paint makeup on models and creating their own horror villain. Not only will the show incorporate effects makeup, it will feature a wide range of skill sets including prosthetics, 3D design, sculpting, eye enhancers, casting and molding.

Each episode involves incredible revelations of the competitors’ finished work and the drama of one contestant being sent home by the panel of expert and celebrity judges. It culminates in one winner and the grand prize of $100,000 and a year’s supply of make-up to launch the winner’s career.

Judging the series is Academy Award winner Ve Neill (Ed Wood, Beetlejuice), famed special make-up effects artist Glenn Hetrick (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Babylon 5) and director and creature designer Patrick Tatopoulos (I Am Legend, Resident Evil: Extinction). The series is hosted by McKenzie Westmore (Passions), who brings a rich history and passion for the art of special effects makeup to her role.

Throughout the series, some of the industry’s most renowned artists will be guest judges, including Sean Cunningham (Friday the 13th), revolutionary body painter Filippo Ioco, Greg Nicotero (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) and Michael Westmore (Star Trek: The Next Generation).
