Wanlu launches new act aboard luxury liner

MANILA, Philippines - After performing at the ASEAN Puppetry Festival last month in Kuala Lumpur, comedian-ventriloquist Wanlu realized the entertainment value of showcasing different kinds of puppets in one show.

He also realized the importance of using puppetry in teaching children.

“Puppets can effectively get a message across to children,” he says. They can range from topics like drug prevention, environment, good values to the promotion of world-class Filipino talent.

Wanlu’s new act, called Wanlu and His Puppets, debuted on board Star Cruises Superstar Libra, where he performed from Nov. 23 to 30.

The act was well-received by guests who came from Asian neighbors like Malaysia, Singapore, India, Indonesia and Thailand. Filipinos also congratulated Wanlu for his innovative, entertaining act, which features soft puppets, hard puppets, marionettes, animatronic puppets and human puppets.

The cruise brought Wanlu from Penang, Malaysia to Phuket and Krabi in Thailand.

Incidentally, Wanlu and his Puppets is also the title of Wanlu’s new CD which is now available in Odyssey Music stores. The CD features songs from his cast of puppets including Nicolo, Baby Bryan, Congressman Dominador, Mang Caloy and Enchong Go.

Wanlu is also working on his new puppet characters like Bb Gandangbaboy, the Pinay version of Miss Piggy, Lo-Shang the Chinoy, Baby Dinosaur, Ozham the Mystic and Herap Hestrada.
