Robin is now a TVC director

MANILA, Philippines - Robin Padilla is now a full-fledged TVC director. His first TVC is Cord Marine Epoxy’s Workshop. Visually-striking, fast-paced and to-the-point, the TVC opens with just a shot of a belt buckle with a beautiful “R” design and then the camera zooms out to reveal that the belt’s owner is no one else but Robin (who is also the endorser of Cord Marine Epoxy).

Making the commercial was a different experience from Robin’s other endorsements. Robin says, “Marami akong inintindi maliban sa paghahanda para sa camera. Nandiyan ’yung pag-isip ng blocking, ng mga shots, pag-check sa ilaw, pag-estima sa staff at crew at siyempre, pag-asikaso sa kliyente at kung anu-ano pa. Oh my goodness! Ganito pala ang mundo ng commercial directing. Masyadong abala pero masaya.”

Because the TVC was produced by Robin’s own RCP Productions (RCP), which stands for Robin Cariño Padilla. The actor-director was involved from concept and pre-production stage to principal photography until editing and post-production. Advertisers and companies would benefit from the expertise of Robin and his competent staff.

Robin puts into directing what he has learned from his mentors (his discoverer Deo Fajardo being one of them) and personal observations acquired from his decades-long experience in show business. Directing was the next logical step for the consummate artist; after all, it runs in his blood. Dad Roy Padilla Sr. was an actor, producer and director. Roy was the director of the film Taginting ng Pilak where he met actress Eva Cariño, Robin’s mother.

Robin is quickly learning the ropes of directing and producing. This year alone, he released two of his works as director, producer and star: The romance-action movie Tum: My Pledge of Love and Isang Landas, the documentary of his love story with wife Mariel Rodriguez. He also has at least two more full-length films in the works: One is an action flick shot in Australia and another is a revealing docu about the Padilla clan.

“Mapa-TV commercial o mapa-pelikula, marami pa akong gustong gawin na project. Maraming mga storya na naglalaro sa aking isipan na gusto kong maisakatuparan sa big screen,” says Robin.

The action star is serious about his endeavor of directing that he has purchased new camera and editing equipment. “Medyo may kamahalan nga ang gamit,” he sighs. “Pero sulit naman dahil — gaya ng Cord Marine Epoxy — pangmatagalan itong pagdidirek ko.
