Forgotten Philippine treasures in History's Hidden Cities
MANILA, Philippines - History’s flagship original production Hidden Cities makes its comeback on TV screens, premiering in the Philippines tomorrow night at 9. Spanning seven different countries across Asia, the all-new season tails the adventures of effervescent program presenter Anthony Morse as he goes in search of the continent’s forgotten treasures and best-kept secrets.
Enlisting the aid of local guides, historians, archaeologists and scientists, Morse attempts to unearth Asia’s untold stories in a thrilling eight-part series, from forgotten palaces and temples and abandoned towns, to disguised underground fortresses that house amazing relics and unknown tribes and communities that preserve their countries’ treasured heritage.
Filipinos have much to look forward to from the series, as it includes an hour-long special on the Philippines. Venturing to places that may not even be familiar to locals, the episode offers a fascinating glimpse of the lifestyle, culture and history of the country, from an enriching visit to the Presidential Palace to meet a former First Lady to a revealing jaunt around historic sites that reflect the Philippines’ traditions and roots.
Revisit a notable part of Philippine history from the perspective of former First Lady Imelda Marcos as she shares her insights on the People Power Revolution — how this has affected her family and the Filipino people’s perception of the Marcoses; and on a larger perspective, how the monumental incident changed history and caught the attention of the rest of the world.
Enjoy a rare insider’s look at some of the country’s forgotten treasures as Morse travels around various places, including an island that became a flashpoint during World War II, mountains inhabited by an aboriginal tribe trying to keep an ancient ritual alive, a prison with invisible walls and the walls of Intramuros in the heart of Manila that enabled Spanish rule for over 350 years.
Also covering China’s Yangtze and the Grand Canal, Sarawak, Sichuan, Singapore, Sumatra, Thailand and Vietnam, History’s Hidden Cities is produced by Singapore-based media company Beach House Pictures with the support of the Media Development Authority of Singapore. The program is presented by Canon and Maybank, in association with Caltex. History is available on SkyCable Channel 25, Cablelink Channel 44, Dream Channel 27 and Destiny Cable Channel 56.
