Visayan singing group Maasinhon Trio wins PGT 3

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Male singing group Maasinhon Trio’s (photo) rendition of Basil Valdez’s classic OPM hit Nais Ko was voted as the best act by Filipinos here and abroad in the intense season finale of ABS-CBN’s Pilipinas Got Talent held recently at the Ynares Sports Center.

”We are very happy. We just proved that talent doesn’t come with age,” said Andrew Sanchez.

The Maasinhon Trio garnered 22.59 percent of the total text and online votes followed by newest singing teen heartthrob Khalil Ramos with 18.64 percent and the acoustic singers Bringas Brothers with 14.03 percent. As runners- up, Khalil and the Bringas Brothers received P100,000 each.

Hailing from Maasin City in Southern Leyte, Andrew together with fellow members Bonifacio Salubre and Licinio Lolo didn’t only win the grand prize of P2M but they also made history as the first act from the Visayas to win the competition following Jovit Baldivino and Marcelito Pomoy who both came from Luzon.

As early as audition week, the Maasinhon Trio already captivated the judges with its flawless blending and harmony when the trio sang its rendition of Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika. The trio blew everyone away come semi finals with Bituing Walang Ningning. Kris Aquino even quipped, “You are perfection” after its semis performance.

Other grand finalists include El Gamma Penumbra, Synergy, Sandugo, Twin Divas, Renagine Pepito, Loverkada Kids, Muriel Lomadilla, Kiriko and Lucky Twins. They all received P50,000 as consolation prize.

In a statement, ABS-CBN corporate communications head Bong Osorio said, “The winners of Pilipinas Got Talent are determined by the number of text and online votes that they receive during the grand finals. All 12 grand finalists are talented and deserving to win, but in the end, it was the Maasinhon Trio, who got the most votes from the viewing public followed by Khalil Ramos and the Bringas Brothers. Pilipinas Got Talent is a celebration of the many talents of Filipinos. The voting public has spoken and let us respect the decision of the viewers. We congratulate the winners and the other grand finalists.”

The live results night got even more exciting with performances from Gary Valenciano, Paolo Valenciano, Jed Madela, Christian Bautista, Nina, Vina Morales, Frenchie Dy, Ryan Bang, Jhong Hilario, Bugoy Cariño, Kamikazee and PGT season one and two grand finalists Velasco Brothers, Nielbeth, Freestylers and Happy Feet.
