An advocacy-filled B-day for Rhian

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Kapuso star Rhian Ramos just turned 21 last Oct. 3 and that signaled not just a professional breakthrough but a meaningful personal journey.

Last Sunday, Party Pilipinas threw a party for Rhian. She had such fun times celebrating with her showbiz friends on the show acknowledging how she practically grew up at the center of the spotlight, as most of them did.

On the day of her birthday, Rhian got the best birthday treat of all, by having her father flew in from Thailand to join her in her celebration — a dinner cruise with just her family in attendance. Rhian couldn’t ask for anything more, she said.

But the celebration is not about to end there. Oct. 9 will be a little hectic for Rhian as she gives way to most of her advocacies. It is Rhian’s self-imposed philosophy to be engaged in meaningful activities as her way of giving back. She says she has been blessed more than she can ever dream or imagine and these commitments that she made are but little ways of showing just how grateful she is to God.

Rhian will lead the Avon Walk geared toward breast cancer awareness. Her support for Avon’s campaign Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer has turned out to be a personal battle for her after her mom Clara was diagnosed with the illness. She said, “My mom got a malignant cyst. It drove me to give my love and support to other women who are also affected by it.”

On the same day in the afternoon and for the second time, Rhian will celebrate her birthday with the Gabay Guro member-beneficiaries of the PLDT-Smart Foundation in line with the celebration of the National Teachers’ month. She values the unsung classroom heroes, having guided the young like her into the real world. The grand celebration will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.

On Oct. 14, she’ll be back at the Child Haus to once again celebrate her birthday with cancer-stricken children who are being temporarily housed in the institution. It will be her fourth time to visit the center and the kids there love her and always look forward to her birthday because she shows them just how much she cares for them.

Fans will always have a special place in her heart that on Oct. 16 and 23, she’ll be having her fans’ day at Robinsons Novaliches, while the following week she’ll be brought to a surprise venue by some of her fans who specifically asked for that one special day with their idol.

There are things to watch out for, Rhian tells her fans. She will be in Bong Revilla’s Panday 2, entry to the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival. Her new movie The Road directed by Yam Laranas will hit the cinemas. Rhian will be seen again acting opposite Dingdong Dantes in a new soap opera.

Rhian is also being much talked about for her exceptional YouTube video with Moymoy Palaboy rap-synching the current hit Super Bass.
