Second leg of Tunog Natin! concert series

MANILA, Philippines - Eleven established and upcoming Filipino artists and bands recently performed in the second leg of Tunog Natin!, a free concert series that features an all-Original Pilipino Music (OPM) repertoire.

Tunog Natin! is a series of advocacy shows that aims to promote OPM and revive the Filipino music scene. The second leg was recently held at the grounds of Avida Towers Centera. Event presenter Avida Land, Corp. is happy about the support that Tunog Natin! has been getting.

“Tunog Natin! is the best proof we have that Filipinos hunger for OPM. They simply don’t’ get enough exposure to our own music. We are happy that in this way, we are able to help make Filipino audiences realize what they’ve been missing and, hopefully, help them value OPM even more,” says Tess Tatco, Avida Land marketing manager.

Myrus is the one who conceptualized the Tunog Natin! series and leads it as project head.

“There’s no other concert series out there today that is committed to an OPM repertoire. All the artists who perform at each leg of the Tunog Natin! concert series exclusively perform Filipino music. This is in line with our advocacy to promote and revive OPM. It is the best way for Filipinos to rediscover the beauty and meaning of Original Pilipino Music. OPM tells our story and expresses our sentiments, hopes and dreams,” he says.

The concert kicked off with The Dawn singing its hits which included Iisang Bangka Tayo.

Mitch Valdez is one of the founders of the Filipino singers’ organization Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit. She is the organization’s chairman of the board.

Aiza Seguerra gave a much-applauded performance during her set. The crowd also enjoyed the much-anticipated back-to-back performances of 1990s-era alternative acts Kitchie Nadal and Barbie Almalbis.

Myrus proved that he’s a singer and organizer. He thanked all those who supported Tunog Natin! and serenaded the crowd with Filipino classic love songs in his R&B style.

Newcomers on the show included acoustic musician Davey Langit, Kiss Jane and Tanya Markova. Faith Cuneta wowed the audience with her effortless high notes. For the finale, True Faith lent its support to Tunog Natin again.

Myrus says that there will be more Tunog Natin! concerts coming up and shows may also be held in indoor venues, like malls.

“The response of the audience to OPM in Tunog Natin! shows that we connect to it at the deepest level. Let’s support it as our legacy to future generations,” he adds.
