The hunt continues for GMA 7's Protégé

MANILA, Philippines - Another two Filipino music icons continued the nationwide search for the Ultimate Protégé as the seventh and eighth legs of auditions ensued last weekend in Davao and Dagupan. The chosen hopefuls will vie for the title on GMA 7’s much-awaited singing superstar search titled Protégé.

Jaya traveled around Davao followed by Joey Generoso’s hunt for potential protégés in Dagupan.

Protégé hopefuls braved the heat and trooped to the SM Davao Event Center for the regional auditions. Davao’s most promising music artists patiently waited for their numbers to be called to take a chance at the three slots allotted for the region’s protégés.

Together with audition master Arsi Baltazar, Jaya went around the city to find undiscovered, raw talents from Davao. There was an overwhelming outpour of emotions during the auditions. A 15-year-old girl amazed and touched the heart of Jaya with her powerful voice, fighting spirit and determination.  Jaya was touched upon learning of the aspirant’s life story. Another female hopeful got the nod of the mentor with her great showmanship and impressed the crowd with her guitar skills.

Joey, on the other hand, turned on his star radar for the hottest music acts in Dagupan. Hundreds trooped to CSI Mall to show that OPM singers can become the greatest contenders in this battle for the big break. Joey was impressed with the contenders who joined the try-out and confessed that he had to make a tough decision in choosing his three potential protégés.

The search is not yet over as auditions will be held today and tomorrow, Aug. 13 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall with mentor Gloc 9. The competition is open for solo, duo, trio and group acts of all ages.

Ogie Alcasid will be the journey host of Protégé while Dingdong Dantes, the gala presenter.
