GMA News TV All Sports airs Dugong Kampeon's bout

-

MANILA, Philippines - GMA News TV All Sports peeks through the future of Philippine boxing tomorrow, July 17, as it brings to air the duel between another champion-in-the-making Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr. and Jeffrey Jimenez.

The moniker, Dugong Kampeon, for the younger Peñalosa speaks of his descent from a lineage of fighters.

The tradition of family boxing was stirred by grandfather Carl Peñalosa, who once held the Philippine Lightweight Champion title, while father Dodie Boy Peñalosa Sr. was a two-time World Division Champion.

His uncle Gerry Peñalosa, another boxing hero in the annals of this combat sport, won twice as World Champion prior to retiring.

The 21-year-old Dodie Boy Jr. delivered a standout performance as an amateur boxer with a clean record of 27 wins, zero loss and 10 knockouts. His impressive boxing card earned him a National Amateur Champion status twice, and could have given him a shot at the London Olympics in 2012 had he not left the amateur ranks.

Since debuting in professional boxing in January 2010, the Cebu grown fighter managed an uncontested sweep — five wins — all knockouts, and zero loss.

The Bantamweight Dodie Boy is so far unbeaten, but in the exciting exchange of brawl with Jimenez, will he prevail amid a bloody cut above his eye? Can he keep his record perfect and build on the namesake to be the next generation Peñalosa?

The fight, which was staged at the Cebu Coliseum last June 25, will have its airing on GMA News TV All Sports Channel 11 before Balitanghali.
