Inside: Cambodia on I-WITNESS

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - I-WITNESS’ back-to-back Asian specials continues with Inside: Cambodia, a documentary by Raffy Tima, which airs May 16.

In the ’70s, the people of Cambodia suffered extreme poverty because of reforms imposed by the Khmer Rouge. These attempts at agricultural reforms and social engineering resulted in famine and genocide. It is estimated that millions were brutally tortured and executed.

But with the death of the Cambodian communist movement known as the Khmer Rouge, Cambodia is now slowly rising from the grave. With the help of Pinoy volunteers, new agricultural reforms are now taking shape. Community-based organizations are formed to help solidify the projects of development.

Ben Lucas, a volunteer from VSO Bahaginan, is going back to Cambodia to find out if his efforts to rehabilitate the farmers’ lives have been successful. Raffy joins him in finding out if Pinoy endeavors have taken root in Cambodian soil.
